There is no clear cut solution, but they are a step in the right direction. Electric cars must be recharged from an energy source which mostly comes from fossil fuels, nuclear or hydroelectric sources. If the power grid were wind or solar powered the4 answer would be a resounding yes,but in the USA we are years away from from leaving fossil fuels. Nuclear power plants produce no air pollution, but the radioactive waste problem has yet to be solved. Gas at $4.00 per gallon makes electric autos look much more attractive.

Probably not. Where is the electricity coming from. The pollution would be more than if u had a small gasoline engine.

It’s a cure for $4.00 gas and that is enough for me.

I believe better transit systems are the key to curing air pollution along with outlawing all fossil fuel operated devices

Yes, they are the cleanest way to move a vehicle.

Currently 75% of electricity produced in USA is by burning coal, a filthy method of generating power. Even worse is that at night when most of us are asleep and do not need much electricity they have to keep making it. It is cost prohibitive to shut down the steam turbines at night and then spool them up again in the morning. So the power is made and then destroyed.

We cannot change that method very quickly so lets use it to our advantage. Charge up electric cars at night. It is more green to use the power than to destroy it after it is made.

The electrical power can come from solar, wind or tidal/wave motion. Not Neuclear. The radioactive waste is too big of a problem (I do not care what France says).

They’re only part of it. You need to recharge it, and be sure that your source of electricity is “green” too. Much of our electricity is still generated by burning coal, which means that the electricity to power the car came from a polluting source, unless you used wind or solar power to recharge the car.
