Anything in a pressurized container (check if the bottom is a metal dome) contains a propellant, which may or may not deplete the ozone layer depending on what it is, but is unquestionably bad for you to breathe and unquestionably pollutes the air.
At a more general level, any product that is essentially an artificial collection of chemicals is bad for the environment in that the production and refining of those chemicals required (1) lots of chemical reagents and chemical waste products (which likely got dumped somewhere), as well as (2) some amount of energy to run the Febreze factory, ship the product, etc., etc., most of which likely comes from fossil fuels and thus emits CO2, mercury, and other environmental pollutants.
The healthy alternatives:
– At the very least, use non-propellant spray bottles
– Open a window
– Use baking soda to soak up odors
– Keep the space free of whatever is generating the odor
– Use natural scents such as flowers, orange oil, etc.
– Make your own perfumes (I’ve heard this is not too hard and is lots of fun)
