Does this excerpt sum up the political hijacking of a scientific study for a totalitarian movement?

For those seeking to justify this kind of all-encompassing government control, global warming is the best candidate to come along since the collapse of Marxism. Like Marxism, environmentalism steals the “scientific” aura of an established field–but in this case it has invaded the “hard sciences,” which carry greater prestige than economics. And unlike previous environmentalist crusades, global warming is a threat that is global in scope and total and all-encompassing in its detailed application to human life. Other pollution scares–DDT, acid rain, the ozone layer–required only the banning of a single product or control over a single industry. None was big enough to require control of the entire economy over the period of a century, nor could any claim to be so urgent as to make dissent an “irresponsible” act that is not to be tolerated.

This may just be one of the most brilliant pieces I have ever read on the hijacking of science for totalitarianism.
“And this global warming police state has one big advantage over Marxism: it makes a virtue of the chronic shortages and privation that were such a mortal embarrassment to Communism. This time, the left won’t have to explain away the lines at the stores, the decade-long waiting lists for tin-can automobiles, even the scarcity of decent toilet paper. These are not failures of the system: they are the goal of the system. They are all necessary to reduce our “carbon footprint.”"
dana, absolutely. I have no problem with scientific research. As long as its open, the data made publically available to all for scrutiny, and the IPCC doesn’t put up barriers to discussing the science like those hypocrites did on this section of wg4:

Air Conditioning
Sure.
Water Pollution
well heres my point of view
i think its about how the public reacts to it. if they rely SOLELY on the fear of it then they will allow it to become an issue similar to that.
Emissions Control
So your issue is not with the science or the scientists that conclude that humans are the primary cause of global warming, but with political hijacking of the science?
Considering how little is being done to reduce human greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in the US, I’d say your excerpt is paranoid at best.
Pollution Prevention
I completely agree. You should re-post this in the global warming section, if any of the chicken littles can comprehend it.
Pollution Control
No. If it did you would have to explain the difference between the complete domination of humanity by corporate marketing today with what will ultimately be the complete domination by corporate marketing masquerading as enlightened environmental choice tomorrow.
Silly conservatives can squawk all they want about a ‘global warming sham’ but the outcome will be a Dow at 30,000 based on the sales of junk to cool the planet. Just relax and count your blessings that this will be the great salvation of the market.
You are not free now and you never will be.
Water Pollution
Dana,
Do you disagree that the earth is constantly changing? What is causing Mars’ polar caps to recede? Did humans cause the last “global warming” when the ice age ended? Did humans cause the dinosaurs to become extinct? According to evolutionists, geologists, anthropologists, the earth is millions of years old and we have weather records for what, 100 to 150 years? How do we know that this climate is worse for the earth? How did Greenland get its name? Could it be that it was actually green with vegetation at some previous time? I’m only saying lets not get hysterical and ruin our way of life. I’m all for conserving resources, but not for someone else coming in and regulating what I can and can’t do.
Pollution
I know it’s scary to think like this and you don’t have to. It doesn’t have to be that way and yes you are right it is their goal. It won’t work though. Look in the next few years the discoveries that are going to be made in medicine, in energy, in virtually everything are going to be by people in their own garages and homes and in their own community. It’s too big for any government and to be quite frank if the world is going to change it will happen at the grass roots level no matter how it looks like big business is on the band wagon of green. They are not, their goal is still the same but we are not and we the people of the world not just America need to all stand on our own feet and say “We are in charge and you will do as We say.” I know it’s a dream but it’s my dream and I’m sticking to it. One for all and all for One!
